Exhibitions of the German National Library

We regularly offer exciting exhibitions on different topics at our two sites in Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main. We present treasures from the Library's holdings in the permanent and temporary exhibitions, thus making a contribution to the memory and contemporary culture of Germany. In addition, we give visitors all over the world the opportunity to explore our exhibitions virtually.

In Leipzig, explore 5000 years of media history in the permanent "Signs - Books - Networks: From Cuneiform to Binary Code" exhibition of the German Museum of Books and Writing. Check out the Museum's fascinating temporary exhibitions on interesting topics relating to book and media history.

Have you ever seen an automatic player piano? In the permanent exhibition of the German Music Archive in Leipzig visitors can discover historical reproduction equipment and sound recordings, including a number of gems from the collection.

In Frankfurt am Main, visit the temporary exhibitions of the German Exile Archive 1933–1945 which cover different aspects of exile. The newly designed permanent exhibition rooms will be open to interested visitors from March 2018.

Or visit – right now! – one of our virtual exhibitions on different topics such as "Arts in Exile" or "5,000 years of media history online".

Find out about our wide range of exhibitions. We look forward to seeing you at one of our exhibitions in Leipzig or Frankfurt am Main – or to welcoming you virtually online.
