The purpose of the service is to provide the information from the GND in a simple form which is usable without knowledge of bibliographic data formats and cataloguing conventions. The data is optimised for direct display or indexing in other applications. The service can currently only be queried by GND identifier. Connection to the DNB’s interfaces is planned which will permit more options for querying in the future. Dump files are provided and renewed in the months of February, June and October/November.
Entity Facts is offered as part of the Linked Data Service of the DNB. Most of the data corresponds to "JSON for Linking Data" (JSON-LD). This also enables the data to be processed in the triple structure of the Resource Description Framework (RDF).
Besides information from GND, links from other data providers are also issued (such as VIAF, ISNI, BNF, LoC, Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Bayerisches Musiker-Lexikon Online, IMDb). The links are taken from publicly available data from third parties such as VIAF and Wikidata, or in the form of BEACON files.
Entity Facts was set up in 2014 as part of a project aimed at representing the "Person" entity.
