Training at the German National Library

The German National Library offers apprenticeships in the following recognised trades:

in Leipzig

in Frankfurt am Main

Apprenticeship year begins: 1 September

Entry qualification: at least German "Realschulabschluss" or equivalent

The apprenticeships are based on a dual system. The practical training takes place at the German National Library in Leipzig or in Frankfurt am Main and the theoretical education is conducted at the relevant vocational colleges.
Severely disabled applicants with equivalent skills and qualifications will receive preferential treatment.
The German National Library supports equal opportunities for men and women.
The latest version of the Vocational Training Act and the regulations of the collective agreement for trainees constitute the legal basis of the traineeships. Remuneration is based on the currently valid wage agreement.
The possibility of being awarded a temporary employment contract is not excluded once the traineeship has ended.

Internship

The German National Library offers internships for qualified assistant trainees in media and information services and students following library, information and bibliography related courses of study.
Limited numbers of mandatory internships are also offered to students of other disciplines.
No work experience programmes are offered for school pupils.
There are no fixed application deadlines. Before sending in your application (for internship semester: preferably 6 months before the desired starting date), please contact us to find out if internships are possible in the relevant period.
