The collection of posters at the German National Library is formed around a core consisting of two World War collections initiated in 1914 and 1939.
The completed special collection of the Leipzig holdings comprises
- over 14,000 posters from World War I and public proclamations from the years 1914 - 1918
- 4,680 posters, leaflets and proclamations on the November Revolution of 1918
- 5,000 posters, leaflets and proclamations from the World-War-II period
- 9,000 single-sheet prints from the years 1945 - 1949 and from the later GDR (until 1961)
The collection can be consulted in the Museum reading room of the German Museum of Books and Writing.
Since some of the posters are in a frail state and not yet catalogued, only limited usage is possible.
