Welcome to nestor

Welcome to nestor, the German competence network for digital preservation. Libraries, archives, museums and leading experts work together in nestor to ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of digital sources. nestor is a cooperation association including partners from different fields, but all connected in some way with the subject of "digital preservation".



A brief introduction to the topic of long-term preservation can be found in the nestor wiki.
nestor has issued a number of publications and maintains links to a variety of Web resources and events.

In collaboration with higher education partners, nestor develops initial and further training courses in the field of digital preservation in Germany. Find information on the annual nestor schools or take a look at the nestor-handbook on the nestor qualification page (in english)


nestor seal 2017

Based on the DIN-Norm 31644 "Criteria for trustworthy digital archives" nestor offers a process of self-evaluation for digital repositories and awards the nestor-seal. (in english)



Networking and exchanging information at the national and international levels are core concerns of nestor. Address details of suitable contacts can be obtained e.g. from the working groups and the directories of the repository projects and activities.



nestor combines various standardisation activities and provides standards for user communities. The nestor wiki offers a comprehensive overview of the relevant standards for digital repositories.
