In 1997 the museum opened the world's first permanent exhibition of digital interactive entertainment culture in Berlin. Since then it has been responsible for more than 30 national and international exhibitions. Since early 2011 the unique permanent exhibition of the Computerspielemuseum on the cultural history of computer gaming has been displaying highlights from the development of the new medium, now stretching back more than 60 years, in its new premises in Berlin-Friedrichshain.
The Museum and its founding association fjs e.V. own Europe's largest collection of entertainment hard and software. It is the founder and coordinator of the nestor Emulation WG and a member of the European KEEP research project (2009 - 2012) aimed at exploring the long-term preservation of digital cultural assets.
