About PDF/A

PDF/A is ISO standard 19005 for long-term preservation in PDF format. It is a restricted version of PDF, a standardised profile for the use of PDF in long-term preservation. The standard prescribes in detail what content is allowed and what is not. This and other provisions guarantee the long-term readability of documents - regardless of with which application software and on which operating system they were originally created. The benefits of PDF/A, such as the ability to conduct full-text searches, make it a preferred archiving format that has now replaced the TIFF format in numerous international authorities and companies.
