The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute for applied mathematics and computer science funded by the Federal State of Berlin.
ZIB is one of the two operators of the HLRN supercomputer for the North German Länder, runs the BRAIN Berlin research area information network and is an operator of the MODAL research campus. Two bodies and working groups are working in the Scientific Information Department of the ZIB on solutions for data analysis and data development, for online presentation, and on the technical and semantic long-term accessibility of digital objects: the Kooperative Bibliotheksverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (KOBV) and the Servicestelle Digitalisierung des Landes Berlin (digiS). KOBV is a service provider for academic and public libraries and carries out development work in the areas of repository management, digital preservation, research data management and discovery systems. digiS coordinates and advises participants in the Berlin cultural administration programme on the digitisation of cultural heritage objects from museums, archives, libraries and memorials.

Competences and priorities in the area of long-term preservation

To implement the joint task of safeguarding the long-term accessibility of digital objects, the digital preservation system EWIG is developed and operated at ZIB based on the Archivematica open-source software.
