"Bibliographic Services" data service
The German National Library offers the following ongoing and retrospective datasets in machine-readable formats via WWW or SFTP:
- Deutsche Nationalbibliografie
- New Release Service
- German Union Catalogue of Serials (ZDB)
- Integrated Authority File (GND)
The records are supplied in MARC 21, MARC21-xml, RDF (several serialisations) (not available for all data) and DNB Casual (for bibliographic data only) formats. Descriptive cataloguing of bibliographic data based on the "Resource Description and Access" (RDA) standard started on 1 October 2015 at the German National Library.
The provision of data via WWW or SFTP is subject to fees. A contract must be entered into in order to obtain records.
The records are provided as available, with no guarantee to its being continuous, punctual, error-free or complete, or to its not infringing the rights of third parties (e.g. personal rights and copyright).

Complete deliveries under CC0 1.0 Universal license
The following records are available free of charge under CC0 1.0 Universal (see Terms of purchase and use). Since the end of January 2014, some geographic authority data contains unchanged coordinates from the GeoNames database. Since October 2015, some bibliographic data contains subject classes from Thema, a subject category scheme for a global book trade.
Most of the ZDB (available in German only) holdings records can also be re-used free of charge. The actual license status is indicated in the records themselves.

The basic data holdings of the bibliographic records of the DNB and the ZDB plus the Integrated Authority File (GND) are available for download free of charge in RDF (RDF/XML), RDF (Turtle) and RDF (JSON-LD) serialization under CC0 1.0 licence as part of the Linked Data Service.
New developments regarding data services and information on format changes
The data is updated via the free OAI interface (only XML variant) or for the GND and bibliographic records and holdings of ZDB via the weekly update service and through charged installments from the WWW or SFTP server (MARC 21 and XML variant).

Individual data records may also be obtained:
- via SRU-Interface
- via the Data Shop (available in German only)
- via ISBN selection (on the basis of a structured ISBN list)
Further processing of metadata
To start with further processing of the metadata the software MarcEdit, d:swarm, the overview MARC Specialized Tools, the Metafacture, OpenRefine or Catmandu software suites offer suitable solutions. For data analytics the "Konstanz Information Miner" (KNIME) or the Metadata Quality Assurance Framework might be usefull.
