Bibliotheksservice-Zentrum Baden-Württemberg

Bibliotheksservice-Zentrum Baden-Württemberg

The Bibliotheksservice-Zentrum Baden-Württemberg (BSZ) is a competence center for providing information services to science and education, based in Konstanz. Its strengths lie in the areas of library and documentation systems, metadata, and support. As an institution under the supervisory of Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts, BSZ primarily supports state institutions such as academic libraries, research institutions, archives, and museums. State institutions from other German states are also supported.

The services provided by BSZ consist, in particular:

  • Organization and operation of the SWB library network system for the libraries of Baden-Württemberg, Saxony, Saarland, and other institutions. K10Plus database, operated jointly with the GBV Union Catalog’s central office (VZG).
  • Support and operation of academic libraries’ library systems, such as aDIS/BMS, FOLIO and Koha.
  • Management of electronic collections and publications; hosting of OPUS4 university repositories; electronic legal deposit; object documentation system for museums; long-term preservation.

Expertise and focus areas in long-term preservation

BSZ provides an application for the automated processing, and metadata handling of publisher and online publications that are subject to electronic legal deposit. The processed PDF and EPUB publications are transferred to a long-term archive based on Rosetta, where they are preserved and made accessible.
The electronic resources of OPUS4 repositories are also transferred and permanently stored in Rosetta.

BSZ actively participates in the German Rosetta User Group (DRAG).

Standard interfaces and formats in the field of long-term archiving are consistently observed.
