Logo Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg

The Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg archives written and pictorial testimony from the last twelve hundred years on nearly 140 kilometres of shelving. Besides preserving the historical heritage, the Landesarchiv is also responsible for preserving the modern day for posterity. It continuously takes delivery of historically valuable documents from the Baden-Württemberg state administration. However, it only archives a small percentage of all documents. The Landesarchiv includes six state archives and three central departments

Competences and priorities in the area of long-term preservation

The Baden-Württemberg state administration is committed by the State Archive Law to submit all analogue and digital documents to the Landesarchiv after they are no longer needed. Since 2002, the Landesarchiv has therefore been archiving statistics, websites, databases and individual documents. The DIMAG digital stack and a comprehensive metadata concept were developed in 2006 based on the representation idea of the PREMIS standard. Its key functions are the assessment, ingest and archiving of digital objects, especially databases, geographical information systems and web pages, as well as concepts relating to the issues of authenticity and digital preservation planning.
