The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is a non-university research institute for applied mathematics and high-performance computing, funded by the federal state of Berlin.
ZIB is a member of the National High Performance Computing Network NHR and operates the Berlin science network BRAIN and the research campus MODAL. In ZIB's research-supporting unit "Digital Data and Information for Society, Science, and Culture", two research groups are working on solutions for data analysis and data management, for online presentation and for long-term availability of digital objects: The Cooperative Library Network Berlin-Brandenburg (KOBV) and the Research and Competence Centre for Digitization Berlin (digiS). The KOBV is a service provider for academic and public libraries and carries out development in the areas of repository management, digital preservation and discovery systems.
digiS coordinates and advises participants in the Berlin cultural administration's funding programme for the digitization of cultural assets from GLAM institutions.

Competences and priorities in the area of long-term preservation

To address the shared task of preserving digital cultural heritage and research data, digiS and KOBV operate the digital preservation system EWIG based on the open source software Archivematica. The digital preservation services are not limited to KOBV and digiS partner institutions; they are open to institutions nationwide. Further information can be found at: https://ewig.zib.de/.
